Cultivating experts Senior Business Management
  • Introduction

    Course Objectives

    The Senior Business and Management Department of Hanyang Cyber University was established to nurture experts that will lead various industrial, financial and marketing in preparation for the 21st-century mega-trend of low birth-aged society. While scientifically predicting the future economy based on demography, the Department it conduct research on industries and marketing of the health, economics, finance, residence, recreation, etc. that satisfy the various desires and needs of people in the 50s, 60s, 70s and beyond.

    As the Elderly-friendly Industry Promotion Act (2006) and the Elderly Long-term Care Insurance Law (2007) are implemented, experts in senior business are urgently needed. The Senior Business and Management Department develops and provides products, service and marketing strategies for citizens in their 50s and beyond, and provides training opportunities for students to learn a variety of theoretical and practical skills in demographics, economy, industry, finance, etc.

    Prospect of the course

    1. The course nurtures talents that have a comprehensive understanding of the future society’s characteristics and economic changes that result from demographic changes owing to low birth rates and the aging society.

    2. Identifies the trends of senior business policies for people aged 50 or above in Korea and abroad, as well as financial demands for the senior business, and cultivates competent talents who can actively cope with these situations.
    3. Cultivates talents that are equipped with basic knowledge of various areas in the senior business and expert knowledge of each area.
    4. Nurturing talents that have good knowledge of practical theory and marketing knowledge that can be readily applied to the senior business field.
    5. Cultivating talents that can establish a network of experts in the senior business with Hanyang Cyber University as the hub.

    Careers after graduation

    Based on a comprehensive understanding of the senior business, graduates can engage themselves in product development, service provision and marketing for the aged. They can also take further studies at graduate schools, or start their career as professionals in the government, government-affiliated organizations, research institutes, and senior business firms and service institutions abroad.

    Examples of the senior business

    • Housing industry: Residential facilities solely for the elderly, senior business towns, retirees’ towns, etc.
    • Finance: Lifelong financial management, financial planners on pension and insurance in preparation for the elderly, finance management for retirees, etc.
    • Well-being and health industries: Health-related foods, quasi-medical supplies, wellbeing products, health care industry for the aged (aerobic dance, yoga, social dancing, gate ball, golf, etc.)
    • Recuperation: Nursing facilities, home care service institutions, geriatrics hospitals, etc.
    • Senior business products and marketing: Developing and selling various senior business products, including shoes and clothes, as well as development and marketing for universal design products.
    • Leisure and cultural industries: Special travel agencies for people aged 50 or above, elders’ colleges, consultation centers, community centers for the elderly, arts industry including music and art, community welfare centers for the elderly, broadcasting companies, travel agencies, etc.

    Examples of suitable candidates for the Senior Business Management course

    1. Students who have an interest in the overall business and comprehensive study directions on changes in the future society.
    2. Students who show an interest in the future industry and culture which will be affected by the aging population and changes in people’s lifestyles.
    3. Employees who wish to adjust their current business in accordance with the future demographic changes.
    4. Students who are interested in becoming a financial planner or an asset manager specializing in senior business finance, retirement pensions and reverse mortgages, financial products aiming on the baby boomers.
    5. General public who prepare for an active future and retirement and have an interest in designing their second half lives.

    Basic objectives

    1. Gaining an understanding of the future economy based on the future demographics represented by low birth rates and the aging population
    2. Have a social, psychological understanding of people aged 50 or above (society, mental states, health, leisure, etc.)
    3. Understanding the various industries, marketing strategies, economy and finance aimed at people aged 50 or above
    4. Understanding life designs, investment, pensions and insurances in preparation for life after the age of 50.
