The General Studies Program is a unique blending of disciplines in which students select desired courses.

In the program, course registration involves course selection among Basic General Studies and General Studies in five areas, and determining a major curriculum upon which to focus.

Purpose of General Studies Program

The purpose of the General Studies Program is to cultivate future ethical leaders by helping students understand the qualities of the ideal global citizen who possesses the creativity, analytical thinking skills, compassion, sense of responsibility, and knowledge needed in information societies. Among other competencies students hone their problem-solving skills in order to adapt to a variety of environments. The program seeks to satisfy the university’s educational objectives by emphasizing the value of responsible citizenship while developing critical thinking, effective communication, and creativity to nurture educated professionals, practical experts, and compassionate citizens of the world.

Characteristics of the General Studies Program

To produce well-rounded graduates who understand and agree with the Founding Philosophy of Hanyang, basic interdisciplinary subjects are covered. Students of the program can expect to improve their communicate skills and broaden their perspectives which will enable them to adapt in various environments at home and in the global community.

First, the program aims at providing a curriculum that allows for student autonomy in their own education

By giving students the chance to design their own education through the freedom to select classes from a wide variety of learning options, the aim is positive empowerment with a sense of social responsibility based on mutual respect and concern for others.


Second, the program seeks to offer a curriculum that is comprehensive and cutting edge

The curriculum is constantly updated to include the latest academic trends and incorporate creative ideas to help students build necessary knowledge and gather useful information as tools enabling them to effectively competitive in society.


Third, the program provides a curriculum that reflects student individuality and preferences

By considering the different studying needs and learning preferences of students, the program aims to encourage students to self-develop through a rewarding learning process that involves task presentations, learning performance, and self-evaluation.


Fourth, the program offers a curriculum that promotes a balance between learning and application

In addition to developing students’ ability to identify and solve problems, the curriculum seeks to enhance literacies in its graduates by also stressing the use of creative logic, self-expression, and articulate communication skills.

Curriculum Overview

Hanyang Cyber University's General Studies Program pursues the following goals to produce well-informed individuals who are prepared to enter a constantly changing, increasingly internationalizing world, armed with creativity, compassion, and problem-solving skills.


  • First, expand multidisciplinary education through a program consisting of basic general studies program based on the pursuit of knowledge and a firm sense of social responsibility as well as specialized courses designed to cultivate professionals and leaders
  • Second, produce graduates who can effectively communicate internationally, using well-developed speaking and writing skills honed through classes such as Future Society and Creative Talent, Words and Writing, and Cultured English
  • Third, increase opportunities for students to systematically learn by offering a diverse range of practical courses within five areas
  • Fourth, improve student selection of subjects and ensure accessibility by setting practical standards and criteria for graduation
  • Fifth, produce successful graduates through education and training that meet the university’s education goals by creating courses related to the core 4C values of citizenship, critical thinking, communication, and creativity
