About the Department of Youth Coaching Counseling

In today's Korean society, the overall family structure and the way it is maintained have changed dramatically in recent years. The number of generations that make up the traditional, extended Korean family (e.g. grandparent, parents, and children) and the number of children that make up the nuclear family have steadily decreased. Currently, a family consisting of only one parent and one child has is not uncommon with dual-income parents being fairly normal. As a result, the roles of family members has transformed and becoming increasingly challenging is achieving and/or maintaining emotionally stability and harmony in the household.

Furthermore, for children in the rapidly changing societies like Korea, other issues such as school violence or bullying are only serving to add stress to already pressured lives in which educational expectation remain high particularly in the increasingly internationalizing communities.

With these various factors in mind, the Department of Adolescent Coaching and Counseling at Hanyang Cyber University aims to cultivate youth counseling experts in various adolescent -related fields to help young people and their families by extension, grow into healthier and happier individuals and productive members of society

Department Prospects and Careers

  • Youth Counselor
    • After obtaining the Youth Counselor Certificate (National Qualification), students can seek employment in youth training facilities including youth training centers, youth training halls, youth hostels, youth culture centers, and youth specialized facilities, or work with youth groups in school counseling offices or juvenile centers.
  • Youth Instructor
    • Only graduates of the Department of Adolescent Coaching Counseling are exempt from written test of the Youth Instructor Certificate (National Certificate) and can obtain the certificate.
    • Recipients can seek employment in youth training facilities including youth training centers, youth training halls, youth hostels, youth culture centers, and youth-specialized facilities, or work with youth groups in school counseling offices or juvenile centers.
  • Coaching Psychologist
    • Students can acquire the Coaching Psychologist Certificate under the Coaching Division of the Korean Psychological Association
